C++ Developers - Recent Grad w/ strong Computer Science Fundamentals

Prop Trading Firm/ NYC

Summary:  Prop Trading Firm in NYC which specializes in various forms of automated trading is looking to hire 3 additional developers with Strong C++, Deep Understanding of language and all around strong computer science fundamentals.   The team develops high speed, high througput, low latency trading systems which require exceptionally strong development skills.  Financial industry experience is NOT required.    Ideally, person will have recently completed computer science degree from top comp sci program, ideally at masters or phd level, but Bachelor's grads will be considered too.    There are two profiles the client prefers:

For the first type:

I prefer Electrical Engineering or Compurter Science Bs.C.s or Masters . Although math, aeronautics and physics grads all know how to code, it's not their top interest in life. Same goes for PhDs - they are mostly overqualified and will not be happy to do some of the tasks that we want them to do. (See exception below).
I want them to have 2 to 3 years of experience - I don't need 10 or 15 years of experience - again - these people will be overqualified. These 2 years of experience can be gained while at college - I see a big advantage in people that worked during school (beyond summer internships). There are few of these, but worth looking for. There is an exception here - from time to time there are BRILLIANT graduates with no official experience. These people code for fun, hack around, and have a vast knowledge of coding - way beyond the stuff that being thought at schools. If you see one of those - send him/her in.
I do not see any advantage for people coming from the financial industry at this point. We have very poor experience with Bloomberg graduates and alike. On the contrary - these guys are mostly overpriced. We are open for people with gaming experience or anything else....

For the second type of position:
Here is the exception for the PhDs -  We can use people that are coming from out of the industry with high math/physics etc degrees. However - here is what's mandatory for those people:
They have to know how to code and understand C++ perfectly. We don't want to invest time in training for coding C++ 2. They have to understand that the positions if for coding - not research. Over time (within a year or so) I do expect them to be able to contribute from their other experience. But as for now, they will be working as any other coder in the firm.

Quantitative Modeler - Options/AMM

Prop Trading Firm/ NYC
Consutling 3-6 Months/ Rate Open

Summary:  Proprietary Trading Firm specializing in Options and AMM want to hire a quant with coding skills in either C++, C#, Java to implement their own work.  Project will probably be 3-6 months in duration.

What needs to be done:

1. Event based modeling of volatility: need to understand how event affects volatility, how to take it out of the implied volatility and how to effectively not make it decay over time.
2. Volatility curve modeling over underlying movement: need to understand how volatility surface move with respect to the movement of the underlying to have a better understanding of whether of not volatility "came in" or got realized in a certain way.

These are the 2 major projects and this has to be done in real time and be able to understood by the internal team. I think that person has to be from an options background and either serve on the trading desk or work closely with the trading desk.

QuantRec.com - Goldman's Solomon: Dark horse contender in CEO race

QuantRec.com - Goldman's Solomon: Dark horse contender in CEO race

"
David Solomon isn't your typical master of the universe, but he might have what it takes to lead Wall Street's most powerful bank.
The 49-year-old co-head of Goldman Sachs' (GS.N) investment banking unit is an unassuming banker who moved into junk bonds early in his career and stayed in underwriting, even as other Wall Street businesses grew hotter.
He has been promoted into ever-more senior roles, and now works mostly behind the scenes, making sure that investment banking clients get what they need, that employees are happy and that Goldman's deal-making machinery operates smoothly. He has been behind some spectacular deals, even if he is not famous for them, and some clients view him as one of the best bankers in the business."

Euro Crash Looks as INEVITABLE as Asia in ’97: William Pesek

"Watching Greece slide into chaos from 6,000 miles away is painful.Asia, after all, was the last region to experience what Europe may be about to endure. Asia’s implosion in 1997 toppled leaders, touched off riots, set back living standards a decade or more and tarnished theInternational Monetary Fund’s reputation. Expect similar developments as Europe’s grand monetary experiment cracks."

In Greece, some see a NEW LEHMAN!

In Greece, some see a NEW LEHMAN!

"LONDON — Bond traders and officials at the European Central Bank have been unified in their warnings that a restructuring of Greece’s debt would set off an investor panic similar to the one that followed the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers.
Others, however, have argued that Greece’s debt of 330 billion euros, or $473 billion, while too large for the country to bear, is small enough to allow banks and other institutions to take a loss without bringing the world financial system to its knees.
But the comparisons between Greece and Lehman grew more frequent last week as global markets reeled, spurred in part by the view that Germany’s insistence that private investors participate in a second rescue package for Athens would overcome the objections of the European Central Bank."

Groupon: perhaps the worst overheated bubble IPO EVER? Here's WHY!

Groupon: perhaps the worst overheated bubble IPO EVER? Here's WHY!

"While preferred stockholders are among the first individuals rewarded when companies do well, Groupon’s performance thus far has hardly warranted the significant dividends these individuals have received. In total, Groupon has paid out $930 million to employees and investors. Equally alarming, in spite of losing $390 million from operations in 2010, Groupon spent $52.9 million buying preferred shares. The obvious question raised by all this is why preferred shareholders seem to be squeezing as much out of the company during these preliminary stages.

Unfortunately, the once blue ocean has quickly filled with red as countless competitors enter the space on a daily basis. A savvy investor asks, “What’s the barrier to entry?” NONE. The only competitive advantage large daily deal sites have is the size of the email lists they promote to businesses. However, in the case of local proprietors such as restaurants and spas, local newspapers and other businesses will likely have a MUCH LARGER email list of prospective local customers."
