Ford Sales Helped by In-Car Health Monitoring

Ford Sales Helped by In-Car Health Monitoring

"The black Ford Explorer had a warning for the test driver at the lab in Dearborn, Michigan, last week: “It is important for you to recheck your blood glucose now.”

The driver’s blood-sugar reading was 81 milligrams per deciliter at 6:32 a.m., the robotic female voice said in the prototype demonstration. When he replied that it has fallen to 71, close to where he can have lightheadedness or blurry vision, the car instructed him to take some glucose tablets and check again after 30 minutes. Then it signs off: “Have a nice drive.”

Sounds familiar.  Return to talks while planning bombings and other Dr. Evil-like activity!

LinkedIn: ONLY Worth $27 a Share?

LinkedIn: ONLY Worth $27 a Share?

"Still, even good companies should be bought for less than they are worth.
Our fair value estimate of $27 assumes LinkedIn extends its dominance as the preferred social-networking site for professionals. We are forecasting annual revenues to increase 43% during the next five years, as combined revenues from hiring solutions and advertising reach more than $1.3 billion. We are also assuming generally accepted accounting principles operating margins reach the mid-20s by 2015.
So, by Morningstar’s measure, LinkedIn is 270% overpriced, even with all these positives. Be careful out there."

At LinkedIn’s Valuation, Apple Would Be WORTH $3 TRILLION!

"We’ve thrown a bunch of numbers at you today to explain just how bananas the LinkedIn IPO is.
Via Twitter, @lessien gives us even more fodder to explain the madness. LinkedIn’s IPO went off at an already wacky $45 a share, slapping a $4.3 billion value on the company.
Now today, LinkedIn’s stock price has shot up by more than $60 a share. At LinkedIn’s current valuation of roughly $10 billion, LinkedIn is trading at roughly 41 times its 2010 net revenue.

Yes, this is bananas.
If Apple were trading at the same multiple, it would have a market value of $2.7 trillion. That is not a typo. And that figure is based on Apple’s revenue for the year ended Sept. 25. Given Apple’s rapid revenue growth, we could be looking at more than $3 trillion in market value, if Apple had the same crazy stock multiple as LinkedIn."

SEC CRACKING DOWN (finally??) on Foreign Shell Cos.

SEC CRACKING DOWN (finally??) on Foreign Shell Cos.

"While the Securities and Exchange Commission has recently stepped up its enforcement efforts against allegedly fraudulent U.S. shell companies in greater China, those efforts aren't limited to that region, according to James Kroeker, the SEC's chief accountant.
Speaking at last week's Zicklin Center Financial Reporting Conference at Baruch College in New York City, Kroeker did not mention China by name. He said that "while there are a number of [reverse-merger stories] from a particular country that have grabbed headlines recently, the problems coming to the forefront are not limited to companies based in any geographic region."
Still, it was clear that the headline-grabbing nation was China. In an April 27 letter to a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee, SEC chair Mary Schapiro reported that in the prior five weeks, the commission had suspended trading in at least three
China-based entities (Heli Electronics, China Changjiang Mining & Energy, and Rino International) that had become U.S. domestic issuers through reverse mergers. The SEC also revoked the U.S. registrations of at least eight other such companies "in the last several months alone," she stated."

Two MAJOR SIGNS the Market Is Nearing a Top

Two Major Signs the Market Is Nearing a Top

"There are many signs that this market is getting long in the tooth and a myriad of concerns could trigger a significant selloff over the summer. The two that seem to be going unnoticed by the market are the massive increase in merger and acquisition activity and what is happening in the IPO market. In short, the smart money is heading to the hills. Some would argue that these increases are a result of a robust and brightening economy and the unleashing of animal spirits after a few years of depressed activity due to the economic crisis. I would counter that some of the same arguments were made during the IPO and M&A booms of 1998 and 1999 as well as the private equity heyday of 2007. In both cases, the direct cause of the boom turned out to be more the excess liquidity that was available to go into risky assets."

Barrons' Writer Completely WRONG so far on RIMM.
"RIM's valuation is far too cheap given the potential. But for the valuation to mean anything, and the stock to rise to our original target of 100 or more within a year, RIM must shake the perception that the company is hurting. Balsillie, take note."

Why Berkshire and Buffett NEVER LOSE

Why Berkshire and Buffett NEVER LOSE

"Ah yes, the old Buffett standby, "intrinsic value." Loosely put, intrinsic value is the value of a company or asset based on the underlying perception of its true value including all aspects of the business in terms of both tangible and intangible factors.
In other words, who cares what anybody would actually pay for those Kraft and Wells Fargo assets? What Berkshire investors should remember is how valuable Buffett really thinks they are."

Housing Crash Is Getting WORSE: Report

"Housing Crash Is Getting Worse: Report"

"There's no way we can get to flat, from these depreciation levels, in the last nine months of the year," says Zillow economist Stan Humphries. "Demand is a lot more anemic than we had previously thought."
When in 2012 does Zillow see the market bottoming out? Humphries won't say.
What a foolish boondoggle those tax breaks for home buyers have turned out to be. The government spent an estimated $22 billion between 2008 and 2010 on tax breaks to prop up the housing market. All it achieved was a brief suckers' rally that ended last summer.
"As we said at the time, it was a giant waste of money," says Mark Calabria, economist at the conservative Cato Institute. "None of these things really turned the housing market around. They just put off the adjustment for awhile."

China To Companies: Thou Shall Not Raise Prices Or Talk About Such Plan!

China To Companies: Thou Shall Not Raise Prices Or Talk About Such Plan!

"Unilever, the world’s second-largest consumer-goods maker, will be fined 2 million yuan ($308,000) in China for telling the media about its plans to raise prices, which the government said led to hoarding.
News reports in March that cited Unilever as saying it may raise prices strengthened fears of inflation, the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency, said in a statement on its website today."
